Because of budgetary pressures, in order to maintain educational programming and necessary staffing, AASD has reduced its capital projects (maintenance projects) budget by 57% over the past 12 years. An annual increase of $1.5 million in the capital projects budget will take the district back to where it was 12 years ago. This will allow projects to be completed annually to maintain our school sites.

 

The Appleton Area School District facilities consist of 27 buildings of which 17 are at least 50 years old. The district is responsible for maintaining space equivalent to 2,300 average sized homes! 

 

It is becoming more challenging to keep up with the maintenance needs of our buildings.  As buildings age, repairs need to be made to:

• Roofs

• Blacktop

• Flooring

• Ceilings and doors

• Lighting

• Fire alarms

• PA system

• Plumbing

• HVAC systems

 

Playgrounds need to be updated and buildings need to be improved to be more energy efficient. In some cases, instructional space needs to be renovated to better meet the needs of students.

 

An increase to the annual budget will allow the AASD to complete the necessary maintenance in order to protect the investment that the community has made in our school buildings over the past 100+ years.
